19th ESC hosts two-day Senior Leaders Professional Development
DAEGU -- The 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command staff and subordinate units conducted a Senior Leaders Professional Development at Camp Walker to discuss current issues within the U.S. Army, Dec. 1-2.
The 19th ESC identified Leader development events, conducted in-process reviews, and continued to refine the event in preparation for the LPD. The 19th ESC LPD involved various types of training such as Physical Readiness Training, briefings, and leader's discussion in order for 19th ESC Senior Leaders to have a better knowledge of current professional development issues and emerging trends from a Senior Leader perspective.
"The LPD is necessary for us because it provides us with an opportunity to bring all Senior Leaders together every 90 days to update them with the latest trends and development in the U.S. Army on the Korean Peninsula, no matter how painfully busy we are," said 19th ESC Chief of Staff, Col. Patrick K. Curran.
19th ESC Headquarters and Headquarters Company with staff sections and 19th ESC subordinate units including Materiel Support Command -- Korea and 94th Military Police contributed to making this quarterly LPD a success.
The first day of the LPD began with a PRT in the morning at Camp Walker, followed by briefings with guest speakers including the 25th Infantry Division Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Christopher G. Cavoli, a former North Korean Army Officer, and Human Resources Command Representatives, and ended with an in-place, no host social.
"I believe the LPD developed Leaders' awareness of today's character development of the Army officers in a strategic level," said 19th ESC Deputy G1, Maj. LaToya M. James.
On the second day, the LPD started with a PRT session as well, followed by 19th ESC Commanding General, Brig. Gen. John P. Sullivan Leader's Discussion on character development at Camp Walker, in which Senior Leaders discussed designated articles they had read beforehand.
"The theme of the LPD this quarter was character development. I think nowadays one's character is as important on one's career as tactical and technical confidence, so this LPD has given us, Senior Leaders, a real good advice on our career development," said Col. Curran.
The LPD was also a valuable chance for the 19th ESC Senior Leaders to better understand personal issues young officers are facing and discuss 19th ESC's primary mission, non-combatant evacuation operation in a profound level.
The 19th ESC will now utilize the lessons learned from the LPD to further enhance Senior Leaders' leadership and career and prepare for a more inspiring and rewarding LPD with a different theme next quarter.
