Announcements from Tax Center
The infamous April 15 deadline to file your taxes has past. However, there’s still time for you to do your taxes without penalty if you’re stationed overseas.
Since February 5, 2013, the Area IV Tax Centers have provided free income tax filing services to all military ID card holders, and DA Civilians. Moreover, this 2013 tax season has been a unique and exciting experience for the Area IV Tax Center operation.
For the first time in 19th ESC tax season history, our Tax Center operation expanded its reach and established satellite tax centers at Air Force, Navy, and Marine bases located within Area IV. This expansion is an unprecedented achievement, and accomplishes our main objective; to assist more Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and civilians than in years prior.
Traditionally, Area IV personnel only had two options: the Camp Carroll Tax Center and the Camp Henry Tax Center. This year we decided to increase our support to the community and established three satellite tax centers at K2 Air Base, Chinhae Naval Base, and Camp Mujuk. Additionally, a mobile tax team further reached out and drove to service-members at Pier 8, in Busan, to file income taxes once a week.
To say that the tax team was busy would be an understatement; however their hard work and dedication paid off.
So far this tax season, over 1,000 clients were served, and 1,207 federal and state income taxes were filed; all at no cost to our clients. These services saved our patrons over $128,000 in filing fees, and resulted in over $1.7 million dollars in tax refunds.
MSG Andrew Lee, the Tax Center operation NCOIC, is extremely proud of his team: “Due to this year’s expansion, our team’s efforts have resulted in serving more customers and saving them more money than in the past.”
“Soldiers helping Soldiers; I couldn’t be more satisfied.” said MSG Lee.
As of April 16, 2013, the Area IV tax centers have consolidated to just one location at Camp Henry to continue offering tax filing support to all those eligible until June 14, 2013.
If you have any questions about these changes, other tax matters, or would like to have your tax return prepared and electronically filed, please call the Camp Henry Tax Center at DSN 768-8590/9038.
The Camp Henry tax office will remain open until June 14, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The Tax Center is located in building #S-1685, Camp Henry.
To have your return done, bring your military ID, Social Security card (and Social Security cards for any of your dependents), last year's tax return, your W2, all other documents that can verify sources of income or significant expenditures, and any other income tax related documents with you.
All returns, whether federal or state, are done free of charge.
