OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- Members of Osan Air Base participated in the "go for broke" memorial 5k run May 1 at the fitness center to kick off the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. The theme of this year's APAHM is 'building leadership: embracing cultural values and inclusion.'

"We have many service members from different walks of life and stories as to why their family came various parts of Asia to the United States in search of a better future," said Master Sgt. Bradford Cambra, 51st Communications Squadron first sergeant. "We are recognizing those service members that are true American heroes based on the sacrifices they gave up in their home land to support the mission of the United States military."

APAHM is a month to celebrate and pay tribute to the contributions that generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders have made to American history, society and culture. Asian-Pacific encompasses the entire Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia.

The APAHM committee will provide information on 18 different Asian-American Medal of Honor Recipients and the 442nd Regimental Combat Team throughout the month.

"I want to educate people about the rich history behind Asian American influence in today's society in the U.S. military, while at the same time never forget about the diverse force we have," Cambra said. "Our success would not be as significant if it weren't for the assistance of everyone who is from a different cultural background."

For more information about the month's activities, see the below list or contact Master Sgt. Bradford Cambra at 784-4661.
