Camp Red Cloud in Uijeongbu holds its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Dec. 5 outside the post's Freeman Hall.

The audience of Soldiers, civilians and family members was welcomed by Col. Jack Haefner, Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Red Cloud and Area I.

After brief remarks, Haefner introduced the evening's main speaker, Maj. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal, Commanding General, 2nd Infantry Division.

Following his remarks, Vandal called the children forward to join in lighting the Christmas tree.

He led them throwing a switch that brought the Christmas tree to life in a rich array of colors.

The tree lighting was followed by a musical interlude that featured the local Kyungmin Kindergarten Children's Choir, followed by members of the 2nd Infantry Division Band performing holiday music.

Then, for the third straight night - he'd done it Wednesday at Camp Casey and again Thursday at Camp Stanley - Santa Claus joined the ceremony, rolling in on a bright red fire engine to the thrill of excited kids.

They then went inside the nearby CG's Mess, where hot chocolate, hot apple cider, cookies and other snacks and beverages were waiting and where Santa posed for photos with the kids.
