Camp Casey in Dongducheon holds its annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in the parking lot of the post's Gateway Club Dec. 3.

Undaunted by winter temperatures, the audience of Soldiers, civilians and family members heard music from the city of Dongducheon's Sa-Dong Elementary School Choir, the Casey Elementary School Band, the Camp Casey CYSS Choir, and the members of the 2nd Infantry Division Band.

They were welcomed by Lt. Col. Edward D. Eldridge, Commander, U.S. Army Garrison Casey, who then introduced the evening's main speaker, Brig. Gen. Richard C. Kim, the 2nd Infantry Division's Deputy Commanding General Manuever.

Among Warrior Country senior leaders in the audience were the division's Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Thomas S. Vandal and the division's Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew J. Spano.

After brief remarks, Kim invited the children forward to join in lighting the Christmas Tree, which came on in a dazzling blaze of varied colors and brought a cheer from the audience.

There were more cheers to come with the sudden arrival by bright red fire engine of Santa Claus himself, who was quickly engulfed by eager children who surged forward to greet him.

He later led the kids to the nearby School Age Children’s Center where hot chocolate, cider, and cookies were served while Santa posed for photos with the kids.
