Dignity, respect are cornerstones of EEO
YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea -- U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan's goal is to operate a premier Equal Employment Opportunity Office with a model EEO program so customers can succeed in an environment free from harassment and retaliation.
The EEO program is committed to providing equal employment opportunity to all employees and applicants for employment on the basis of merit without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, nation origin, sexual orientation, or physical or mental disability.
Anna Revere, director of Equal Employment Opportunity for USAG Yongsan says her objective is to promote the full realization of EEO through a continuing affirmative employment program which aims to eliminate discrimination based on factors irrelevant to job performance.
"I want to make sure that everyone is treated equally and free of discrimination in their workplace," Revere said. "This is why it's important that everyone understand the importance of the EEO program and how we are here to help."
Revere oversees the EEO program here in Area II, and serves as the command advisor for all EEO matters. She said she is committed to working toward and maintaining a diverse workforce at all levels.
"In support of the Army's continued efforts and challenges, we must continuously strive for a workforce that reflects America, promotes an environment that places high value on dignity, respect and professional growth," Revere said. "The Army's ability to attract, develop and retain a quality diverse workforce is the key to our success.
"We can keep a safe and peaceful work environment with the help of the managers stepping in to ensure that their employees are treated fairly across the board," Revere said. "We also partner with Equal Opportunity (EEO for military personnel) to help ensure that our service members are being treated equally."
This program has many different responsibilities:
- To review and interpret applicable laws and regulations;
- Conduct surveys and develop policies
- Command inspection program assessments
- Staff assistance visits
- Collect ISR data
- Manage EEO committee
- Personnel recruitment action review
- Comply with accommodations guidelines.
Revere explains that when a complaint is received it is handled at the lowest level possible. This ensures that complaints are processed in a timely manner and mediated with the managers.
EEO is also responsible for advising all levels of management by providing guidance and recommendations through participation in strategic planning; meetings (labor relations, community outreach, briefings); program overview, and administering sensing sessions.
