Eighth Army holds reception to mark new year

YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Eighth Army celebrated the new year with senior Republic of Korea-United States Alliance leaders at a holiday reception hosted by Eighth Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. John D. Johnson here at the Hartell House Jan. 5.

The reception was attended by Gen. James D. Thurman, commander of United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and U.S. Forces Korea; Gen. Kwon Oh-sung, deputy commander of Combined Forces Command; and retired ROK Army Gen. Paik Sun-yup, along with other distinguished visitors.

During the reception, Johnson stressed the importance of the ROK-U.S. Alliance and thanked all U.S. and South Korean troops for their dedication to the alliance.

“For more than six decades, the ROK-U.S. Alliance has demonstrated its shared commitment to defend our shared values, and the men and women who have served in it have provided the prosperity and liberty in this land,” said Johnson.
