Eighth Army ROKA Support Group welcomes CSM
YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — The Eighth Army Republic of Korea Army Support Group bid farewell to Command Sgt. Maj Choi Jong-joon and welcomed Command Sgt. Maj Cho Sung-jae at a change of responsibility ceremony here June 13.
The ceremony was attended by ROKA Support Group Command Col. Kwon Young-kil and President Kim Jong-wook of KATUSA Veterans’ Association.
Choi fulfilled his duties as ROKA sergeant major of the 2nd Air Assault Squadron, TANGO Security Company, Eighth Army Headquarters and Area IV ROKA Support Group command sergeant major after he transferred to the ROKA Support Group in 2003.
Assuming duty as command sergeant major of the ROKA Support Group and as a “mother” to the Korean Augmentees to Eighth Army, he improved the welfare of the augmentees and the strengthened the bond between past and present KATUSAs to strengthen the ROK-U.S. Alliance.
“As the commander of ROK Army Support Group, I would like to express our admiration for his dedicated service. I hope that he will find greater achievements and continue his successful service by implementing the knowledge he learned in here,” said Col. Kwon Young-kil, commander of the ROKA Support Group.
Choi will transfer to 21st Infantry Division.
The incoming Command Sgt. Maj. Cho Sung-jae has served ROKA sergeant major of the 15th Field Artillery Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division, United Nations Command Security Battalion, 557th Military Police Company and the Area III ROKA Support Group.
“He is already known for his work ethic and duties from his former experience.” said Kwon, “I expect his dedication to this unit will ultimately enhances the ROK-U.S. Alliance.”
