DAEGU GARRISON — U.S. Army Garrison Daeugu’s Headquarters and Headquarters Company bid farewell to its outgoing commander, Capt. Lanakia S. Glover, Jan 6. Capt. Adam M. Eschenlauer, arriving from 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command, took the reins of HHC as the new commander.

USAG Daegu Commander Col. Ted Stephens lauded the outgoing commander for her hard work and dedication. “Cpt. Glover truly has made a difference in Area IV. Looking back over her time as commander, the results speak for themselves,” Stephens said. “Her…emphasis on Army SHARP, consideration of others, and suicide awareness truly placed the well-being of our Soldiers first. Her interactive, reality-based scenarios for SHARP training received recognition across the peninsula. And, others have decided to implement her techniques as part of the SHARP training process. We will continue to benefit some of her innovative ideas for the next few months.” Stephens also welcomed Eschenlauer to his new role. “ Cpt. Eschenlauer, you have big shoes to fill but I have no doubt that you are ready for this job. “

Citing a behind the scenes story of the selection process, Stephens said, “Deputy Garrison Commander, Mr. (William) Christman and Cmd. Sgt. Maj. (Ray) Thornton and I were standing with our backs facing the 11 candidates who applied for this job, much like the judges during the popular show ‘The Voice.’ And, there were really talented officers seeking this opportunity. Unanimously, each one of us turned around and placed our hand on the buzzer and said we select Capt. Eschenlauer. So, know you have the best that was available to lead the team.”

“Thank you for entrusting me with this opportunity,” Eschenlauer said. “I look forward to my time as a HHC commander and the opportunity to work with each and every one of you.” Glover’s next assignment is with the United States Army Recruiting Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
