The Great Mountains International Music Festival & School
Date: July 14 ~ August 6
Location: Pyeongchang Dagwallyeong Alpensia Resort, Youngpyeong Resort and neighboring area

The Great Mountains International Music Festival & School (GMMFS) is operated by the government of Gangwon Province. Premier musical performances from some of today’s most celebrated artists are held during the festival period, while the school operates all year round, providing highly-respected, intensive training for the next generation of classical musicians. Located in South Korea’s spectacular Great Mountain region, renowned for its beautiful terrain, the festival brings together an impressive array of internationally recognized artists and faculty.

From Dong Seoul Bus Terminal, take an intercity bus to Hoenggye Terminal (횡계).

Buyeo Seodong Lotus Festival
Date: July 18 ~ July 21
Location: Seodong Park (Gungnamji)

This festival celebrates the beautiful lotus flowers and highlights the importance of preserving wild flowers. Though the festival’s program contains many events related to lotus flowers, making paper lotus flowers and making lotus flower soap are two particularly popular programs with international visitors. Various other popular tourist destinations are located nearby the festival grounds, including several Baekje (BC18~AD660) cultural historic sites such as the Baekje Wangneungwon (royal mausoleum), Nakhwaam, and the Baekje Historical Museum.

From Seoul Nambu Bus Terminal, take an intercity bus to Buyeo.
(Bus schedule: 6:30-19:20, 40min intervals / Estimated Travel time: 2 hours)
From Buyeo Intercity Bus Terminal, take a taxi to Gungnamji (궁남지, 1.5km).

Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival
Date: July 18 ~ July 28
Location: Bucheon Citizens’ Hall and City Hall, Bucheon CGV

Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival (PiFan) is a representative event in Bucheon, a mecca of visual culture that encompasses movies, cartoons and games. As one of the most dynamic and energetic film festivals in the nation, PiFan has, over the last 10 years or so, garnered support of the movie goers both at home and from abroad. At PiFan, visitors can watch movies of various genres (horror, myster, thriller, sci-fi, etc.) and of controversial topics, and attend discussions with film directors. Through movie screenings and various programs including the PiFan parade, the film festival strives to make a leap forward in visual entertainment.

Walk along Jungangdaero Boulevard for 700m.
Turn left, and walk along Jangmal-gil Street for 100m.

Boryeong Mud Festival
Date: July 19 ~ July 28
Location: Daecheon Beach area

Of the numerous festivals in Korea, it is the Boryeong Mud Festival that probably attracts the largest number of international visitors. During the festival period, tourists flock to the area to experience the beneficial properties of the Boryeong mud, and also to have lots of fun. Fully immersed in the both the mud and the festival’s great atmosphere, visitors enjoy mud wrestling, mud sliding and even swimming in the mud mega tub. Visitors feeling particularly energetic can try the marine mud-training course, whilst those looking for something more chilled can relax in the mud massage zone. In the evening, music and fireworks continue the party on the beach.

From Seoul Central City Bus Terminal, take an express bus to Boryeong (보령).
From Boryeong Bus Terminal, take a bus bound for Daecheon Beach. (10min intervals)
From Yongsan Station or Yeongdeungpo Station, take a train to Daecheon Station.
From Daecheon Station, take a local bus bound for Daecheon Beach.

The 15th Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival
Date: July 23~ July.28
Location: Exhibition-Convention: COEX D HALL Animated Film Festival: CGV Myeongdong & Seoul Ani-Cinema

Seoul International Cartoon & Animation Festival (SICAF) is one of the five major animated film festivals in the world. It introduces creative trends through various exhibitions by creative masterminds and up-and-coming artists, as they present new interpretations of comics and animations.

Muan White Lotus Festival
Date: July 24~ July.28
Location: Hoesan White Lotus Ground and Illo-eup

Muan is the largest habitat of the White Lotus flower in Asia, spanning 330,000m2 in size. While most lotus flowers are pink, the lotus flowers in Muan are snow white, which is very rare. During the Muan White Lotus Festival festival, visitors can enjoy a landscape filled with white lotus flowers and lotus-themed activities.

From Mokpo Bus Terminal or Muan Bus Terminal, take Bus 800. (30min intervals)
Get off at Illo-eup Office and transfer to a local bus bound for Hoesan White Lotus Ground. (회산 백련지; Hoesan Baengnyeonji)

* During the festival, shuttle buses are available from Illo-eup Office to the venue.

Jangheung Jeongnamjin Water Festival
Date: July 26 ~ August 1
Location: Jangheung Tamjingang River and Pyeonbaek Forest Woodland

Jangheung is a small county in Jeollanam-do that is located near the sea of Boseongman Bay, and by the big lake created by Jangheung Dam and Tamjingang River.

The Janheung Jeongnamjin Water Festival (also called the Jeongnamjin Aqua Festival) is held each year around the end of July. Unlikeconventional festivals with exhibits, performances and shows, the Jeongnamjin Water Festival aims to offer something different by having summer and water-themed events where visitors can enjoy a multitude of fun and exiciting summer games and activities.

From Seoul Central Bus Terminal, take an express bus bound for Jangheung (approx. 5hrs travel time).
From Jangheung Bus terminal, take the Jangheung-Woodland (장흥-우드랜드) bound bus.
Get off at the Woodland (우드랜드) bus stop (2 stops, approx. 10min).
It’s a 5min walk from the bus stop to Pyeonbaek Forest Woodland (편백숲 우드랜드).

Ansan Valley Rock Festival
Date: July 26~ July.28
Location: Ansan Daebu Sea Breeze Theme Park

Ansan Valley Rock Festival is now held annually at Ansan Daebu Sea Breeze Theme Park. As Korea’s biggest rock festival with a line-up of big-name musicians from Korea and abroad, Ansan Valley Rock Festival is ready to welcome music fans, moving from its previous location of Jisan Resort to the festival-only zone with an expansive view.
