St. Patrick's Day Fun Run draws runners
KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- "On your mark, get set...go." More than 35 runners took off from the starting line in front of the fitness center during the St. Patrick's Day Fun Run, March 16, 2013, at Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea.
Runners participated in either a five- or 10-kilometer run, which was coordinated by the 8th Force Support Squadron fitness center. This is the third such event of the season, and Staff Sgt. Virginia Garcia, 8th Force Support Squadron fitness specialist and special events coordinator believes the weather may have played a part in the turnout.
"It's a pretty good turnout, the weather is getting nicer and more people are coming out to the runs," Garcia said. "In late April, there will be a marathon hosted in Gunsan City, Republic of Korea, that offers five and 10k runs as well as a half and full marathon, so this event could possibly be their training for that run."
The day's weather provided optimal conditions for the event, which helped Justin Delorit, 8th Civil Engineer Squadron chief of asset management complete the run with the fastest time.
"There was not too much wind, and it was cool enough for a nice run," said Delorit, who completed the 10-kilometer run with a time of 38:56. "Hats off to everyone who came out to run during St. Patrick's Day."
