Tax Center opens at Osan
OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- The 51st Fighter Wing Judge Advocate’s Office has opened a tax center to assist junior personnel file their taxes.
“[The tax center is beneficial because] they have someone right there to ask questions,” said Senior Airman Megan Miller, 51st FW Judge Advocate general law paralegal.
The tax center is entirely staffed by IRS certified volunteers and is intended to help those who are not experienced with filing taxes.
“Osan has a [large] number of first term Airmen, [so] we want to ensure those who are less familiar with how to file taxes and those who have never filed before have a resource where they can get help,” said Capt. Chad Bond, 51st FW Judge Advocate chief of general law.
The tax center is located in Bldg. 787 behind the main education center building in Classroom 8 and is open to members E-1 to E-5 and O-1 to O-2. Personnel seeking assistance can schedule an appointment for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.to 4 p.m. by calling 784-3220, or the legal office at 784-4131.
Individuals E-6 through E-9, O-3 and above, retirees, and personnel with more complex tax returns seeking assistance should make an appointment at the Humphrey’s Tax Center at DSN 753-5680 or COMM 031-690-5680.
As a reminder, tax season for overseas personnel is through June 18. However, if money is owed to the IRS, personnel must file by April 18 to avoid interest being assessed to their taxes, Bond said.
