Tour showcases historic, modern Korea
CAMP HUMPHREYS – Approximately 100 U.S. military personnel, civilians and family members received the opportunity to see both the historic and modern sides of Korea during a Hite Beer Factory/Yongmoon-sa Temple tour Sept. 2.
The tour to Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, about three hours northeast of here, was sponsored by the Korean-American Friendship Association Anjeong-ri Chapter and the Korea Foreigner Tourist Facility Association (KFTFA) Pyeongtaek Chapter.
Due to heavy traffic, the events of the day were shuffled around, but seemed to be enjoyed by the participants nonetheless.
Following lunch at a Korean buffet restaurant, the group visited Yongmoon-sa where they had the opportunity to hike and visit the various attractions on the grounds. Afterwards, the buses headed for the Hite Beer Factory, where participants received a tour of the facility and then sampled the beverage.
Kim Ki-ho, KAFA president, said “this event seeks to enhance Korean-American friendship between the military and Korean communities.” He also said that his organization has some other opportunities for the Humphreys community coming in the near future.
