Warrior Base at DMZ gets some love from USO
Korea's Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) is home to one of the US Army's premier training sites: Warrior Base. Soldiers are constantly rotating through, making the base their temporary home as they hone their skills at everything from air and missile defense to qualifying on their M2 machine guns. While not focusing on improving their mission readiness, the remote base offered very little in terms of rest and recreation, however, as the incredible diversity of sunflower seeds at the small convenience store attests. After a grueling day of training, there was not much for a soldier to do - until the grand opening of the newly-stocked Warrior Base Rec Center on Monday, October 25.
The USO has supplied the new Warrior Base Rec Center with everything a soldier could ask for. Brand new PS4 and X Box One video gaming systems await them, as do 3 big screen TVs with AFN channels and a DVD player with a library of over 100 movies. Speaking of libraries, there will also be a large book case where service members are welcome to choose from hundreds of books to read. They can then take their books to lounge in the brand new sofas and recliners provided. The USO also obtained sponsorship from Music IT and KT Olleh for only unlimited WIFI hotspot for miles.
Connecting service members to home, family and country throughout their service to the nation – even on remote training facilities in the DMZ; it's what we do at the USO. We look forward to helping many thousands of service members enjoy a little break from training at the new Warrior Base Rec Center.
