Blackhawks capture first Korea Blue title in Humphreys school history
CAMP HUMPHREYS, South Korea – With victories Thursday over Seoul American and Friday over Yongsan International School of Seoul, Humphreys’ boys basketball team captured its first Korea Blue Division regular-season title in any sport in the school’s three-year history.
Freshman Jackson Taylor hit a three-pointer from the right side with six seconds left to give the Blackhawks their only lead Thursday in a 64-63 win over the Falcons. Omar Lopez had 13 points to lead four players in double figures in Friday’s 52-35 home win over the Guardians.
“We were exhausted from the night before and the magnitude of that game, but we pulled it out,” Blackhawks coach Ronnie Merriwether said. The Blackhawks improved to 10-1 on the season and are assured of the top seed in next week’s Korean-American Interscholastic Activities Conference Blue Division Tournament.
“We still have a lot of work to do,” Merriwether said. The KAIAC tournament, “is only Part I.”
