Guam Military Bases Raise Force Protection Condition
ASAN, Guam (July 1, 2016) – Joint Region Marianas and its installations on Guam elevated their force protection condition on Friday.
This elevated condition puts Guam’s bases in line with the force protection posture in the United States mainland. Although the increased posture adds a number of additional security measures, many random in nature, the intent is to raise awareness and vigilance during the holiday period and is not in response to a specific threat.
No scheduled base activities have been cancelled. The public is still invited to the MWR Guam Freedom Rocks Festival scheduled for 4-9 p.m., July 4 at Polaris Point. The band Hanson will perform at 7 p.m. followed by a fireworks display.
Random force protection condition changes and exercises are necessary to ensure that the military effectively executes its force protection mission. Members of the military and their families are encouraged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement authorities.
