US contractor dies in 1-vehicle crash in South Korea

  SEOUL, South Korea — An American contractor with U.S. Forces Korea was killed in a one-vehicle accident early Saturday near Camp Carroll, Army officials said.

Elijah Compton, 33, a civilian worker for the 403rd Army Field Support Battalion, died around 5 a.m. outside the base’s main gate, according to a statement from the Army’s 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command.

Compton struck a telephone pole, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. No one else was injured in the crash.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident.
