USO Osan Air Base Opens Massively Expanded Center
For the last 7 years, the USO has been working hard to serve the Osan Air Base community from a small, 560-square-foot corner facility in the Community Center (Building 916). That all changed this past Friday with the opening of a massive new 2125-square-foot facility with all of the amenities a service member could dream of; everything from a plush 9-seater movie theater to four state-of-the-art massage chairs to release that pent up tension from a day spent defending the Korean peninsula. The new center will give the service members a tremendous new facility to relax and unwind at when they are off duty.
At the opening ceremony presided over by 51st Fighter Wing Commander Andrew Hansen, the Korea Area Director of the USO, Greg Phillips, proudly explained all the work that went into planning this tremendous new USO Center. "Our Center Manager David Yoo and Duty Manager Hasi Jackson spent months planning and building this tremendous new center. This new center gives service members a stunning new facility that truly accomplishes the USO mission of connecting them to home, family and country. They will feel right at home here when they walk in and are greeted by a member of the USO family and handed a complimentary coffee and snack to enjoy as they play games, watch TV or just relax with a good book from the bookshelf."
The new digs include 6 gaming systems, a pool table, 6 computers with CAC card readers, a 75-inch high definition TV and a Sony home theater sound system in the movie room, another big screen behind the drink and snack bar and yet another one in front of comfortable sofas that will remind you of home. There is also a separate lounge area with 7 elegant reclining chairs to relax in. The back wall boasts 6 high-speed Internet-connected computers with CAC card readers. Judging from the opening weekend, however, the biggest hit of this opulent center is the four massage chairs.
