Enjoy good spirits in good spirits at Craftworks
SEOUL - “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy” is a quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin. There is a pretty good chance that “old Ben” would greatly appreciate an evening at Craftworks Taphouse and Bistro in Seoul.
Craftworks is located inside the Myeongsan Building at 651 Itaewon-2 dong, Yongsan-Gu, Seoul. That is just across the street from Gate #21 of Yongsan Garrison.
“I came to Korea (from Canada) for a friend’s wedding and never left” replied Dan Vroon when asked how he ended up in Seoul. Dan is the co-owner of Craftworks Taphouse and Bistro.
They serve 7 of their own brews made with fresh Gapyeong spring water. Each of the Brews is of a different variety and is named for a famous Korean Mountain:
Bukhansan Pale Ale
Guem Gang Mountain Dark Ale
Halla Golden Ale
Jirisan Moon Bear I P A
Namsan Pure Pilsner
If you are having a hard time deciding which beer to try, let us recommend the “Sampler paddle” which offers a small portion of each choice. Our group of 3 people ordered 2 of the paddles. (Perhaps there was a pint or two of our favorites to wash it down as well.)
Craftworks also boasts a selection of 2 dozen single blend Scotch labels and uses “top shelf” brands for their mixed drinks.
The “Bistro” part of the “Taphouse and Bistro” is just as impressive as the taphouse portion. The menu runs the gamut from Starters or salads to Sandwiches and main courses and on to desserts. On our evening of indulgence, we opted for the appetizer sampler platter. The special of the evening was a braised pork shoulder.
The smoking section of the establishment is shut off from the non-smoking section so you can enjoy your visit in either environment.
I like beer and prefer it in front of me, so I was very impressed. A friend who was with our group had this to say about the brew served at Craftworks. “This from a guy who lived in Germany for the last 9 years, ‘They brew a good Hefeweizen.’”
For a great night of beer and food in a friendly atmosphere, make it a point to visit Craftworks Taphouse and Bistro.
