Make yourself at home at Braai Republic
“Lamb chops are our preferred choice of meat,” says Louis Strydom, head manager of the South African restaurant Braai Republic in Pyeongtaek.
Meat, especially barbecued meat, is definitely the main attraction at Braai Republic. In Afrikaans, “Braai” literally means “barbeque.”
“The menu is basically home-styled cooking in South Africa,” Strydom says, adding that Braai Republic has two branches, one each in Pyeongtaek and Itaewon.
Strydom recommends customers try Braai’s four different homemade sausages, including Boerewors, a traditional South African sausage. It is a mixture of lamb, beef and pork flavored with “our secret herbs and spices,” Strydom adds with a smile.
There is a full list of menu items to enjoy, including meat platters and Braai’s much talked-about meat pies. And don’t worry, there are plenty of vegetables - spinach, sweet potatoes and potatoes - to round out a complete meal.
For those of you looking to get your fill at a Sunday brunch, Braai offers a very attractive menu that includes lamp chops, boerewors, hash browns, bacon, eggs and other savory items. It will leave you salivating for your next outing at Braai Republic.
Like any good restaurant, Braai offers a variety of wines and alcoholic beverages to choose from. “It’s a restaurant first and bar/pub second,” says Strydom.
Strydom wanted to make it clear that Braai also offers a family-friendly environment, complete with children’s menu and a baby-changing area in the lady’s room.
When asked how he wants people to feel when they come into his restaurant, Strydom simply said, “At home.”
