Local wildlife protection groups are up in arms over the slaughter of 11 boars this week in Gangseo-gu, Busan.

The 11 wild boars appeared around an apartment complex in Sinho-dong, Gangseo-gu at 7 p.m. Thursday evening after swimming 3 km up a river and looking for food around a local landfill.

The police were dispatched after receiving calls about wild boars in residential areas.

During a four-hour onslaught, police massacred 4 female boars and 7 young boars with heavy artillery on reclaimed land around the complex.

The police say they will dispose of the carcasses after handing them over to the Gangseo District Office.
