The 6TH Ordnance Battalion
The 17th Ordnance Company “Renegades,” worked alongside their local community in the city of Uijeongbu to spread thankfulness to others during the month of November. Renegades supported their higher headquarters, 6th Ordnance Battalion, and the command philosophy that “the strength of every organization is built on the relationships the organization has with the local community.” The Uijeongbu Soup Kitchen Event consisted of providing food for the community’s citizens. Many of the attendees were elderly or disabled and unable to carry their food and bags. Soldiers served close to 100 people by serving and carrying their food, as well as taking away trays and preparing and cleaning up the Soup Kitchen.

PFC Keyla Johnson, the 17 Ordnance Company Soldier who spearheaded the event, said “It felt good to give back to the community. Service to the community is one of the most important things we can do. I felt it was a valuable experience to volunteer and see how community outreach is conducted in Korea.”

Soldiers volunteered twice, once on November 16th and again on November 30th. The Renegades truly enjoyed volunteering with the Uijeongbu Soup Kitchen and plan to make it a regularly occurring monthly event. SFC Jermaine Young, the company First Sergeant, explains “I really enjoyed the opportunity to serve alongside the group pf passionate Volunteers that we worked with at the Uijeongbu Soup Kitchen. They repeatedly told us to please come back, and our Soldiers begged me to allow them to go back to volunteer. That just shows you the impact that was made and we look forward to serving again in OUR city of Uijeongbu.”

This small act of service is a testament to 17th Ordnance Company’s continued commitment to excellence while also strengthening one of our nation’s most vital alliances. 17th Ordnance Company looks forwarding to working with the Uijeongbu Soup Kitchen in the future to make a difference in the city of Uijeongbu.
