Part of the ceiling inside the food hall at Lotte Department Store’s Centum City branch in Busan collapsed on the afternoon of May 31, prompting an evacuation and the early closure of the store.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 3:03 p.m. on the basement level of the department store’s food hall.

No injuries were reported, but customers and employees in the area were evacuated as a precaution.

he collapse is believed to have been caused by a water leak from cooling water pipes within the building. Following the incident, the department store suspended operations and closed early to conduct safety inspections.

Officials are investigating the exact cause of the collapse and assessing the extent of the damage.
