Columbus Day Safety Awareness

Columbus Day Safety Awareness

by Eighth Army
U.S. Army

Columbus Day commemorates the spirit of exploration and the discovery of our great Nation. During this weekend, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the many Korean cultural activities and enjoy the beautiful fall colors.

This first holiday weekend of the Fall season, is typically accompanied by cooler temperatures and usually provides our first glimpse of the upcoming winter. Hours of daylight get shorter, and trips should be planned to minimize travel in darkness. Drivers, whether riding on two or four wheels, should get plenty of rest prior to travel, and plan adequate rest stops during their trips.

If you walk or ride a bicycle or motorcycle after dark, wear reflective clothing to alert others of your presence and give drivers more time to react. You should ensure you and your bike are fitted with all required safety equipment and that it is in good working order.

Safety must always be top priority. Every member of the 8A family is a precious resource without whom our mission cannot be accomplished. I ask you to have perseverance, courage, and determination to take the time to review your weekend plans and arrive back safely.
