Guardian Knights awarded 2016 BG Barr award
Every year the Army Corrections Command evaluates all the Military Police units that are either assigned to, attached to, or supports the Army Corrections Command Army-wide in order to recognize the unit that displays the most outstanding performance over a 12-month period.
This year's honors were given to the U.S. Army Correctional Activity-Korea (USACA-K) during a ceremony at the MP Hill Gymnasium at Camp Humphreys December 12. The unit, commanded by the team of Capt. Derick Hoy and Sgt. Maj. Justin Shad, was presented the 2016 Brig. Gen. Thomas F. Barr award. Presenting the award was Brig. Gen. David Glaser, commander, Army Corrections Command.
The Barr award is based on total unit accomplishments, encompassing every phase of activity bearing directly on mission accomplishment. The Soldiers of USACA-K met or exceeded those requirements resulting in the recognition across the Army as this year's top correctional unit.
"I am most impressed with the professionalism of the Soldiers under my command," said Hoy. "Soldiers can become complacent in a job like this and these Soldiers have answered every mission given to them. They continue to impress me every day through their professional demeanor and conduct."
The USACA-K Guardian Knights consists of 77 Soldiers and seven KATUSAs. Their mission is to conduct detention operations for U.S. prisoners at USAG Humphreys and provide theater-level pre-trial and short-term post-trial confinement service. Additionally, they have a wartime mission of corrections and detention operations for U.S. and enemy prisoners.
The Evaluation Board considered unit nominations on the basis of mission performance, major accomplishments and significant achievements of the unit and members of the unit from1 October 2015 through 30 September 2016. The Barr award is intended to promote esprit de corps within the Army Corrections Command.
