Osan Thrift Shop throwing grand opening bash
OSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea — The former location of Osan American Elementary School, building 251, now houses the Osan Thrift Shop. The move is due to the impending demolishment of the thrift shop’s last home, building 403, as a part of the perimeter defense project. A grand opening bash open to the entire Osan community is set for Saturday, September 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the new location to celebrate the move with Osan families.
“Although it was not leadership’s choice to move, the staff and volunteers are loving the new space,” said Osan Thrift Shop co-manager, Sara Hughes. “The new location is cleaner and better equipped to showcase our growing inventory, so we are excited to see how customers react to it. And even though the thrift shop has moved, the fun, friendly culture of the shop customers have come to love will always be present— no matter where it moves. We can’t wait to show off the new place to Osan at our grand opening bash!”
Food and entertainment will be provided at the bash. There will be grilled hotdogs and a clown who will make balloon animals, as the thrift shop aims to foster a family-friendly environment. Attendees may also have a chance to win prizes. Visit the thrift shop’s Facebook page, and find the virtual event pinned at the top of its timeline to RSVP.
The Osan Thrift Shop, a non-profit organization, is owned and operated by Team Osan Spouses’ Club. Items for sale in the shop include donated and gently used clothing, baby goods, household items, electronics, books, toys, sporting goods and furniture. Income incurred from the shop is given back to the Osan community through charitable donations and scholarships. More than $70k was distributed to the Red Cross, USO, Homeward Bound, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Osan American High School last year.
