U.S. ARMY GARRISON HUMPHREYS – For Kyeongmi Ko, fueling up at the Family Mini Mall Express is part of her routine. She has been using her MILITARY STAR card for the past six years at Army & Air Force Exchange Service stores. She enjoys the 5-cent-per gallon discount when she swipes the card for gas at the Express.

Using her card earned her an even better deal: a grand prize in the eighth-annual Your Holiday Bill Is on Us sweepstakes.

“When I first received an email saying that I was a grand-prize winner, I thought it was a scam or an advertisement,” said Ko, whose husband, Joe J. Halm is an Army Veteran. “But when I received the second email, asking for my acceptance of the award, then I thought it was real.”

Ko was honored Feb. 25 during a presentation at the USAG Humphreys Exchange. Exchange Regional Vice President Scott Bonner, U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys Commander Col. Seth Graves and Exchange General Manager Vanessa Rowland presented Ko with a mock check to represent her grand prize—a $2,500 MILITARY STAR statement credit.

“We are thrilled to honor and recognize Ms. Ko,” Rowland said. “As the spouse of an Army Veteran, she is an important part of the USAG Humphreys community. The Exchange is excited to celebrate this win with her.”

Because Ko’s card balance was less than the grand-prize minimum of $2,500, she received her prize as a statement credit. Her winning transaction was randomly selected from 5 million entries worldwide.

“I don’t have any special plans for the $2,500, but I know that want to spend it on my family,” Ko said. “I would like to thank Camp Humphreys’ Exchange for all their hard work and support to our community.”

MILITARY STAR cardholders earn 2% in rewards on purchases, including at the commissary. In addition to the restaurant discount, cardholders save 5 cents on every gallon at Exchange fuel locations.

Ko was one of five grand-prize winners who had their entire MILITARY STAR balances paid off (or received a statement credit if their balance was below $2,500) in the sweepstakes. Ten second-place winners received $1,000 statement credits and 25 third-place winners received $500 statement credits. Since the annual sweepstakes began eight years ago, MILITARY STAR has paid off more than $320,000 in balances.

During November and December, shoppers worldwide automatically earned an entry in the Your Holiday Bill Is on Us Sweepstakes every time they used their MILITARY STAR card at any military exchange, ShopMyExchange.com, myNavyExchange.com or at the commissary.

The MILITARY STAR card is an exclusive line of credit for service members and their families to use at exchanges and commissaries – no matter where they serve.
