ROK Army delegation visits 8th TSC for Logistics Coordination Council
JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR HICKAM, Hawaii -- A delegation from the Republic of Korea Army visited the 8th Theater Sustainment Command July 16, for a Logistics Coordination Council (LCC).
The visit provided an opportunity for both armies to gain a better understanding of each other's capabilities and how they plan and synchronize theater distribution and sustainment in the Pacific.
8th TSC serves as U.S. Indo-Pacific Command's senior military logistics organization, responsible for ensuring sustainment conditions are set for a safe and secure Pacific region.
The command relies heavily on its strong partnerships and military relationships with allies in region to close and identify gaps in theater distribution and sustainment.
A highlight of the LCC was a tour of the Logistical Support Vessel 2, CW3 Harold Clinger from the 545th Transportation Company, 8th Special Troops Battalion, 8th TSC, which showcased how the command can move commodities to austere areas where other ships or air assets cannot go.
During the visit, Sgt. 1st Class Edis Starnes, detachment Sgt. for LSV 2 said, "[This engagement] we get a chance to understand their [ROK] intent. We also get a chance to express our capabilities and how we can further assist them in any kind of mission or joint logistic mission."
"I think these are important visits," said Chief Warrant 3 Daniel Benroth, Vessel Master for LSV 2. "This allows us to build partnerships with other nations and perhaps bridge some gaps between our two countries."
Events like the LCC help set the stage for future collaboration and exchanges, which improve interoperability between U.S. and ROK forces, which is critical for success in joint military operations or responding to contingencies in the region.
"These visits help us to cultivate relationships with allied nations by demonstrating to them some of the capabilities that we offer in the INDO-PACOM region," said Capt. Michael Clark, a logistics officer assigned to the 8th TSC and one of the lead planners for the LCC. "We are able to teach them about how we operate in the hopes that we can integrate our capabilities for future operations and find ways to collaborate with one another to improve our own operations."
