CAMP HENRY, Republic of Korea — The U.S. Army Garrison Daegu Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) team officially re-opened Camp Henry's Wall Fitness Center at a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug. 5.

For the past eight months the fitness center had been undergoing renovations to help it better serve key members of the USAG Daegu community — Soldiers.

"Before we didn't have any functional fitness in the facility. So now we added lifting stations. What's important now is the deadlift because it's part of the [Army Combat Fitness Test]. We've tried to give everyone multiple options to get in shape for the ACFT," said USAG Daegu Chief of Sports, Fitness & Aquatics Larry Butler.

It was Butler's idea to maximize the space within the facility, focusing renovations on optimizing the interior layout the structure. Workers removed approximately 1000 square feet of office space to make room for the functional fitness area.

According to FMWR Director Sean Wise, the renovation project has elevated the facility, with more than $100, 000 worth of new equipment and "more to come." He also praised the coordination between garrison directorates and contractors in delivering a quality experience to the community.

"The Directorate of Public Works is great about making sure that our facilities get the love and attention that they need. This whole renovation project was about a half million dollars and it was just a fantastic team effort by the entire organization."

The FMWR team has dedicated itself in recent years to upgrading fitness facilities at multiple USAG Daegu installations, including Camp Walker and Camp Carroll. More upgrades and renovations are currently planned, including dedicated ACFT lanes at outdoor fields and additional equipment to keep Soldiers mission-ready.
