CJ Food World – all things food!
From spicy Bibimbap and handmade fishcakes to huge slabs of tender steak and scrumptious desserts, CJ Food World has it all! Not just a massive collection of restaurants where you can fill your belly, CJ Food World offers much more – a multi-faceted look at the world of food through experience programs, displays, and a mouthwatering array of foods.
Located near Dongdaemun History & Culture Park Station, CJ Food World features 17 brand restaurants run by the CJ Group, a leading food conglomerate in Korea. In addition to the sit-down restaurants, visitors can find a vast selection of wine, fresh fruit, and other foods in shops spread throughout the complex. Whether you’re looking to have a romantic dinner or a light teatime with a friend, CJ Food World is the place to go.
1F: A chance to linger over coffee and dessert
The first floor of CJ Food World is awash with the fragrance of the freshly baked bread of Tous Les Jours and the heavenly aroma of Twosome Place coffee. Eateries on the first floor are always bustling with people grabbing a quick meal, laughing with friends over coffee, or nibbling on the sweet and crispy waffle cones of Cold Stone Creamery.
B1: Meals to please every palate
Looking for something more substantial than just a snack? For a hearty meal, visit the basement floor, where you’ll find Korean cuisine, Western cuisine, Chinese cuisine and a variety of other restaurants. You’re practically guaranteed to find something that suits your tastes!
As you head down to B1, one of the first things you’ll see is the sign for VIPS, CJ’s steakhouse brand. Their savory and juicy steak is by far their most popular dish. Across from VIPS is Bibigo, an ambitious project by CJ that aims at globalizing Korean cuisine. Bibigo specializes in Bibimbap, a popular Korean mixed rice dish that is served with toppings and a sauce of your choice. Unlike most Bibimbap restaurants, Bibigo also offers take-out for busy diners on the go.
On the same floor is Cheil Jemyunso, a noodle restaurant serving up Udong (buckwheat noodles) and two other types of noodles. Here you can actually see the chef at work making the noodles as you relax in the restaurant’s unique interior. If noodles aren’t enough, try Samho Eomuk across the way for some delicious handmade fishcakes. The most popular fishcakes served are those made of 100% real snapper. For an even healthier option, try the roasted fishcakes. In the evening, the eatery turns into a sake bar, making for an unbeatable combination of warm eomuk fish cakes and traditional Japanese liquor. Meat eaters should head to Bulgogi House (Baekseolgwan), which boasts chargrilled Bulgogi and refreshingly cold Naengmyeon noodles.
Farming & Groceries
Not just a delight for the taste buds, CJ Food World has an educational side as well. On the way to the basement floor you’ll come across the CJ Farm. Surrounded by a glass wall, this 330 square meter large indoor field shows how rice, beans, and tomatoes are grown. The artificial sun on the ceiling, the threshing machine by the rice paddy, and the farming machines add to the overall rural ambiance. The Kids Cooking Center, which is scheduled to open in the near future, will even be offering a variety of hands-on programs for families to enjoy. Families may also enjoy stopping at Happy Cong to sample traditional tofu or sit down for a meal.
Surrounded by this myriad of restaurants and farming equipment, you may find yourself itching to try your own culinary creations! On the basement floor, you’ll find Olive Young, Petitzel, Fresh Market, and about 500 stores selling flour, sugar, fruit, jelly, juices, desserts, and more. You’re sure to find everything you need to make your own delicious masterpieces in the kitchen. If your homemade treats don’t turn out the way you expect, at least you’ll know where to go for dinner.
