Delicious burgers at Marry Street 210 in Pyeongtaek, Korea

It had been so long since I indulged in a juicy burger, I couldn’t even remember the last time I’d been to a burger joint. I figured it was time, so I made my way to Seosabul in Pyeongtaek to try a new place — Marry Street 210 burger shop.

When I first entered Marry Street 210, I noticed a cute dog relaxing in the dining area. This joint is dog-friendly, so it is a good place to catch locals enjoying a burger with man’s best friend if you’re missing having a dog with you overseas. My dog is back home with my parents, so played with one while I waited for my order to arrive. Needless to say, this restaurant has a relaxed and welcoming vibe.

I quickly learned that Marry Street 210 also specializes in coffee. Though you may not think to order coffee at a burger joint, owner Kim Gyeong-jun’s extensive studies in coffee and previous experience working with CK Corporation, one of the nation’s biggest coffee companies, might help change your mind. I recommend the long black and the flat whites because they’ll exceed your expectations. Kim’s coffee brains and his wife Yoo Jin’s burger knowledge she gained while working in Brisbane, Australia, are what pushed the couple to open Marry Street 120 in 2017.

Besides coffee, the menu gives you many options to choose from. First, there are nine burger options, ranging from miso pork belly and spicy tandoori to basil, mozzarella and more. You also get to choose the type of bun. Does white ciabatta bread sound good? What about black ciabatta made from squid ink? Too crazy? There’s also a brioche bun if you want to go with something fluffy and buttery. The buns are baked daily using organic flour and French gourmet butter, so don’t skip out on these delicious carbs!

And, the difficult decision doesn’t stop at the burgers— Marry Street 120 also has fried side orders, including beer-battered chips, coconut shrimp, calamari rings, cheese sticks, sweet potato chips, Aussie cheese fries and more.

Kim suggested the Marry Original Burger, a beef burger topped with fresh homemade onion sauce and tomato chutney. I decided to head a lighter route, opting for a grilled chicken burger with a black ciabatta bun and French fries for 12,000 won (or $10.73) instead. To wash it down, I ordered a soft drink for 2,500 won. Though this is much more expensive than a burger fast food chain, you’re definitely paying for quality at Marry Street 120..

As soon as my meal arrived, I couldn’t help but dig into the thick and piping-hot fries first. They were perfect in size to bite and cooked to perfection. They were the best French fries I've eaten this year. As for the burger, the chicken breast was seared on the outside and juicy on the inside. Topped with perfect portions of gooey American cheese, sour cream, mustard BBQ sauce and spicy pickles, this burger was a flavor explosion at every bite. Maybe I’ll take Kim’s suggestion next time, but I’m not sure about that.

Marry Street 210 also offers a vast selection of salads, soft drinks and beer, including IPA, which is my usual go-to adult beverage when I go out to eat.

Of all the places I’ve been in the Seosabul area, I don’t think there’s a burger like this anywhere else. For now, this is going to be my go-to burger place. All the options at Marry Street 210 mean I won’t soon be tired of what they’re serving up. Give it a try when you’re looking for a step up from your usual fast food burger.
