Did you know?: Korea is the largest sea snails consumer in the world

Sea snails are one of the popular cooking ingredients in Korea. You can find the dishes made of sea snails in Japan and France, but around 80 percent of sea snails caught in oceans around the world are consumed in South Korea. Korea imports most of the snails from England and Ireland because South Korea is having difficulty catching up with the high demand for snails within domestic production.

The most popular and common recipe to enjoy snails is a golbaengi-muchim (골뱅이무침) which is often served with soju. The Korean snail dish is a spicy and tangy mixed salad made by tossing snails with a variety of vegetables, noodles and red pepper paste sauce.
