Busan has revealed 20 restaurants selected by residents as part of the 2026 Busan Dwaeji Gukbap Competition, celebrating one of the city’s best-known local dishes.
More than 10,800 people participated in online and offline voting between August 16 and September 2, recommending 254 restaurants across Busan. The selections ranged from long-established neighborhood restaurants to some of the city’s better-known dwaeji gukbap spots.
The next stage will be the “Gukbap Summit” on September 19, bringing together Busan promotional ambassador Han Sang-jin, chef Kang Leo and residents who nominated restaurants to discuss the history and culture surrounding the dish. A video of the event will be released September 27.
From September 28 through October 14, the 20 restaurants will participate in “Gukbap Week,” when residents and visitors can vote for their favorites through KakaoMap.
The competition concludes with a Gukbap Showcase from October 16 to 18, featuring food stalls, cooking demonstrations and awards.
