Eat Like a Local: Italian With a Korean Twist – Osteria Osige in Bugok

Located in Bugok-dong, the cozy yet not pretentious Osige has become popular with the locals since its opening in October, 2016.
 
Owner/chef Lee Seungeon, who brings with him fifteen years experience as a master chef at Chicago Pizza in the Hongdae district, transplanted to Busan after becoming well-known in the Seoul dining community for his Italian cuisine.
 
 
He uses high quality, locally grown ingredients and infuses Italian and western food with a Korean touch. He constantly reinvents the menu, offering various takes on Italian dishes that are high on quality and taste.
 
The Osige pizza, for 17,900 won, features seasoned pork bulgogi and leek and blends an interesting mix of flavors with a slight salty aftertaste. There are six kinds of pizza on offer with prices ranging from 9,900 won to 17,900 won.
 
Five kinds of pasta are also available with reasonable prices from 6,900 won to 11,900 won. The basil pesto cream shrimp I tried was very rich and tasty, too.
 
The steak option changes daily, and the chef takes great care in selecting a premium cut which he cooks to perfection and hits all the classic steakhouse marks. If you have a strong preference for your steak, you can gladly inform the chef who is more than happy to oblige your request.
 
 
With reasonable food prices, the accompanying wine selection also hits the mark. With a rotating selection that he pairs with his dishes, chef Lee focuses his preferences that would make any oenophile happy. Dealing directly with a wine distribution company, he focuses on the quality and price rather than the brand name and tastes the wine before ordering to ensure that its 15,900 won to 27,500 won price tag offers polished and stylish wines.
 
 
Though this place is modest with only four tables, it is a really popular and bustling place which features a lot of self-serve options, including soft drinks which they will add to the price when you pay.
 
Walk-in customers are welcome until 1 p.m., but reservations are highly recommended. For special holidays such as Christmas, you may need to make reservations around one month in advance.
 
Take out is possible. Parking is not available but there is a public parking lot around 10 meters away and free WiFi is available.
