Eat Like a Local: Soban - Korean dining with a classic touch

Just up the hill from the beginning of Damaji route, there is a cozy looking Korean restaurant called Soban. It may seem a bit small from outside but this place is quite wide and comfortable.

Soban is a very popular lunch restaurant for young people, and dinner and a drinking place for those people living nearby.

The room between tables is relatively spacious and you can see trees and ocean through the ceiling-to-bottom glass windows giving it a homey interior without intrusions from other diners.

We ordered their signature, Galchi-jorim, a spicy hard boiled stew with hairtail for two, and it came with wonderful homemade style side dishes and rice, which is served for 15,000 won per portion and should be ordered at least for two.

The soup was thick and mildly spicy, the fish was plenty and soft, and the radish was fully-cooked and soaked in the deep soup.

None of the side dishes were salty, and they were served fresh and perfectly seasoned. The owner/chef was making the rounds checking if the customers were happy with the food and making sure they enjoyed the meal.

The seafood pajeon (15,000 won) that we ordered additionally was a good choice for a more splendid meal experience.

They have around ten more kinds of menu options ranging from 13,000 won to 18,000 won which are mainly seafood-based, and they also have special seasonal menu options for around the same price.

Korean soju is 4,000 won and beer is 5,000 won. There is draft Blanc 1664 for 8,000 won.

Reservations are recommended for bigger groups or if you would like to have window seats for lunch. They usually have seasonal options and makgeolli, which are not on the main menu, and you may want to check before ordering.
