Food prices at restaurants inside Korea’s railway stations continue to rise, with staples such as gimbap, jajangmyeon and pork cutlets becoming noticeably more expensive.
According to data from KORAIL Retail, the combined average price of six popular meal items reached 43,136 won as of August, up 4.3% from 41,367 won a year earlier.
Gimbap recorded the largest increase, rising 5.7% to an average of 4,078 won per roll. Jajangmyeon rose 5.1% to 7,788 won, while bibimbap increased 4.6% to 9,394 won. Pork cutlets climbed 4.5% to 10,026 won, udon 2.9% to 6,783 won and ramyeon 2.8% to 5,067 won.
Prices at railway station restaurants were also higher than average prices in Busan. Korea Consumer Agency data for July put the average price of gimbap in Busan at 3,543 won and jajangmyeon at 7,000 won.
KORAIL Retail has held 126 price adjustment consultations with businesses operating at stations since 2021.
The higher prices were attributed to higher ingredient and labor costs, according to the data.
