The 24th Myeongji Market Gizzard Shad Festival will take place from September 8 to 10, with food events, performances and entertainment planned throughout the three-day celebration.
One of the main attractions will be a free gizzard shad tasting at noon on September 8, giving visitors a chance to sample one of Myeongji Market’s best-known local specialties.
Discounted eel sales will also be available throughout the festival.
The event opens at 11 a.m. on September 8, followed by the tasting, cultural performances and a youth trot concert.
Singer Kim Jo-i will perform at 8 p.m., followed by an opening fireworks show at 8:30 p.m.
September 9 will feature traditional gakseori performances, cultural shows, a hanbok fashion show and the preliminary round of the Eunbit Song Festival.
The festival concludes September 10 with more performances and the song contest finals.
A flea market and traditional night market will also operate during the festival period, while the night market program will continue through September 13.
The festival takes place around Myeongji Market in Gangseo-gu.
This market is the most famous traditional market, with about 50 years of history, and has become the specialty live fish market in Busan since it was a five-day market and a dawn market 30 years ago.
