Byeolcheonji Hadong Tea Culture Center in Gwangalli will host a pair of special tea events this month to celebrate Korea’s Tea Day on May 25, offering visitors a chance to experience the flavors and traditions of Hadong tea.
The “Hadong Specialty Tea Table” program will feature sessions on May 23 and May 25, with advance reservations currently open.
The event was organized to mark Tea Day, first established in 1891, and to introduce participants to the aroma, history, and cultural traditions of Hadong tea, which has a history spanning more than 1,200 years.
Programs will be divided into two formats: a “Tea Class” and a “Tea Time” session.
The Tea Class offers small-group participants a guided experience with a tea master, who will introduce tea-making techniques, tea culture, and the characteristics of specialty teas. Tea Time sessions will focus on sampling Hadong specialty teas and traditional snacks while allowing participants to share and explore tea culture in a more casual setting.
On May 23, visitors can experience tea from Hadong brand “Muaesanbang,” known for its fermented teas with a clean sweetness and soft aroma. On May 25, “Mansuga Made Tea,” one of Hadong’s best-known tea producers, will present its own style of naturally grown wild-field teas.
Participants will have the chance to brew fresh seasonal tea, learn proper tea utensil use and tea etiquette, and explore the aroma and tasting methods associated with traditional Korean tea culture.
Organizers said the program has already attracted strong interest, with previous Tea Class sessions selling out in advance. The experience is designed to be beginner-friendly and accessible even for visitors unfamiliar with tea culture.
The Byeolcheonji Hadong Tea Culture Center in Busan continues to host exhibitions, hands-on programs, and cultural events aimed at promoting the heritage and value of Hadong tea.
