On a recent trip to go see the Haeundae Lights Festival, a colleague from out-of-town suggested we find a quick dinner before the light show began.

We weren’t in the mood for a big dinner, but we also felt like having something to warm us up from the chilly cold that hit Busan last week.

Just a few meters down Gunam-ro from the beach, we happened to stumble upon Ramen Fukuraiken, a small hole-in-the-wall Japanese ramen restaurant.

With just about a dozen seats on the first floor and a slightly more spacious upstairs with floor seating, the intimate restaurant was a great choice to grab a quick meal for an affordable price near Haeundae Beach.

They serve six types of basic ramen — Chang, Baek, Black and Hong which use chicken stock and either soy sauce or fish, and two types of U-Ramen which use abura soba and oil bibim.

Prices begin at 6,000 won for the basic which includes spring onion, egg and seaweed, though if you want to add more toppings like pork and bamboo shoots, you can pay an extra 2,500 won to 5,000 won for more.

Five affordable extras are also available, including fried tofu sushi, seaweed rolls, fried chicken and extra noodles and rice ranging from 1,500 won to 4,000 won.

Soda, soju, and beer are also available.

The quality of the food was quite good and came quick making it a good place to stop for a quick, quality ramen near the beach.

They are open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
