Hakgang makguksu in Inje never tasted so good

While in Gangwon-do province, you should try makguksu, the local noodle made from fresh potatoes. Everywhere you go, you will notice there are plenty of makguksu restaurants to choose from.

Three of the most well-known makguksu restaurants are Wondae makgusu, NamBuk-myeonok, and Hapgang makguksu. I chose the Hapgang makguksu restaurant, which is located near the mouth of Nearincheon(stream), because the other two were closed that day and a bit far from where I was.

I ordered the basic makguksu noodle (7,000KRW). Before digging in, the restaurant server suggested adjusting the seasoning with vinegar, sugar and sesame oil to my liking. They serve the makguksu noodle with pan-fried Topu, white Kimchi, hot broth and kimjang Kimchi with oysters. All the side dishes were fresh and delicious.

The dark-colored noodle, served with spiced pollack and seaweed, really had a chewy texture and its taste of sweet and tangy. “Many westerners visit here to enjoy the new dining experience, if the red pepper sauce (gochujang) is too hot for your plate, add a little broth, it will neutralize the spicy flavor and tastes different,” said, Yun Yeongsil, the owner of the restaurant. They had really tasty dishes and generous servings considering its price. If you want to take a rest from the fatigue of your journey, visit Hakgang makguksu near the downtown area of Inje.
