The Hapcheon Local Hanwoo Festival, the largest regional event dedicated to premium Korean beef, will take place from October 24 to 26 at Hapcheon Lawn Park.
Since its debut in 2023, the festival has drawn more than 70,000 visitors each year, growing into a major tourism event linked with local attractions like the Hwangmaesan Silver Grass Festival and the Pink Muhly Garden.
This year’s program features trot performances, busking shows, and hands-on experiences, while the highlight remains the tasting event, where visitors can savor the famous “Hapcheon Local Hanwoo,” a brand developed and managed by the county and the Hapcheon Livestock Cooperative since 1999.
Registered as a regional trademark that same year, Hapcheon Hanwoo has become a benchmark for premium Korean beef. Cattle are raised on exclusive feed enriched with loess minerals—free from antibiotics and synthetic additives—and only beef graded 1++, 1+, or 1 by the Livestock Products Quality Evaluation Service is distributed.
Hapcheon Hanwoo’s distinctive loess-based feed enhances tenderness, juiciness, and aroma, making it one of Korea’s finest. In 2024, the brand’s cattle achieved an average carcass weight of 492 kg and a 1++ grade rate of 51.9%, among the nation’s highest.
The county invests roughly 4.3 billion won annually to promote the brand, with recent upgrades including fermentation facilities at the local feed factory. Officials say the festival offers “a rare chance to experience the taste of Korea’s top Hanwoo brand, built over 25 years of steady progress.”
