A special K-seafood pop-up featuring domestically caught bluefin tuna and mackerel will be held at Hyundai Department Store’s Pangyo branch from September 26 through October 1.
The “Taste of the Busan Sea, K-Seafood Partnership Pop-Up” will take place in the B1 pop-up zone and is designed to introduce consumers to high-quality Korean bluefin tuna while promoting greater consumption of domestically caught seafood.
The event is connected to a pilot project aimed at increasing the value of Korean bluefin tuna. Under the initiative, tuna caught by large purse seine fleets is sold directly to domestic processors, helping maintain freshness and quality while increasing the value of the catch.
The project gained momentum in March when Dongwon Industries and the Large Purse Seine Fisheries Cooperative signed an agreement following administrative and regulatory support from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Busan Metropolitan Government.
One of the main attractions at the Pangyo event will be daily bluefin tuna cutting demonstrations. Tuna weighing more than 100 kilograms and caught in Korean coastal waters by Busan-registered fishing vessels will be cut on-site, with limited quantities available for purchase.
The pop-up will also highlight domestically caught mackerel through dishes designed to appeal to younger consumers, including pressed mackerel sushi and mackerel rice pot dishes.
Busan officials said the event is intended to raise awareness of Korean bluefin tuna and other K-seafood products while making high-quality domestically caught seafood more accessible to consumers.
