If you’re trying to send a letter or buy some stamps, this is not the post office you’re looking for.
Tucked down a side street in Seoul’s Dongdaemun Market neighborhood, you might pass an old-timey post office that looks like it was transported from Gilded Age New York.
Except it’s 2026, and in the electronic era of emails, text messages and TEAMS calls, Mailroom Sindang (메일룸 신당) is hiding its tasty secret: a full menu of espresso drinks, cocktails and desserts.
Enter the post office and the friendly clerks will direct you on how to enter the speakeasy-style café behind the mail sorting slots. The vintage and mail theme continues throughout the multi-story, very Instagrammable café decorated with mismatched furniture, and, on the third floor, an impressive light fixture made of mail slips seemingly floating to the ceiling, you have to see.
On the fourth floor, enter a dining area with a stunning view of the city through the doors of a wardrobe. The rooftop also offers views of the city and in the late winter would be a refreshing spot to enjoy a hot cup of joe. However, during our recent visit we were there for cold concoctions, so we sat inside.
On the backside of the mailroom storefront on the first floor is where patrons place their orders by filling out a mail slip to hand to the mail clerk at a small window.
We ordered Einspanner, a traditional Viennese-style coffee served cold and topped with a generous dollop of sweet, whipped cream, for 7,500 won (about $5), and an affogato, which is a scoop of vanilla ice cream with a hot shot of espresso on top, for 7,000 won. We were given a buzzer and a skeleton key.

For a small fee, customers can write letters to themselves while waiting which the café actually sends via snail mail, including internationally. We skipped this. I don’t want to hear from my past hungry, un-caffeinated self.
When our buzzer went off, we took the stairs back down from our second-floor table and inserted the skeleton key into the designated pickup mailbox. Inside a tray with our perfect drinks was waiting for us.
The einspanner was served in a tall, ridged glass allowing for a clear view of its layers. The dark cold brew coffee and sweet cream formed a delicious balance on the palate.
Though somewhat similar in vein, the favorite was definitely the affogato. The creamy vanilla ice cream, slightly smoothed by the hot, dark espresso shot, was the perfect mix of hot and cold we wanted from this delightfully caffeinated treat.
Though we skipped dessert, the other guests around us seemed to be enjoying the tempting chocolate cake and egg tarts.
All in all, a stop at Mailroom Sindang was just what we needed for a quick sugar and caffeine fix to continue our shopping in this busy district in Seoul. It’s the perfect hideaway for a decadent espresso drink and long chat with friends as you plot your afternoon of shopping or next stop for a taste of the local nightlife nearby.
