The Seoul Metropolitan Government has rolled out a Lunar New Year promotion offering discounts of up to 30% at 62 traditional markets and neighborhood shopping streets across the city, aiming to ease holiday shopping costs while boosting local commerce.
During the promotion period, shoppers can find reduced prices on holiday staples, including agricultural, livestock, and seafood products. Many markets are also hosting seasonal events such as traditional performances and hands-on activities like rice-cake pounding and folk games, alongside giveaways and Onnuri gift certificate promotions.
To improve accessibility, free parking and temporary roadside stopping will be allowed near 71 traditional markets through Wednesday the 18th, an increase of three locations compared to last year. Parking rules vary by district and can be checked on the Seoul city website.
In partnership with the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Ministry of Agriculture, shoppers at participating markets can also receive Onnuri gift certificate refunds of up to 30 percent on eligible purchases during designated dates.
The city is conducting safety inspections and deploying additional staff in busy markets to ensure a safe and smooth holiday shopping experience.
