My life as a military kid is that my dad is in the Army, and my birthday is in April. Military Month is also in April. It’s not just about having fun. It’s about being kind and respectful, and sometimes helping the community. Some military people work hard to help our community, and some people want to be like them when they grow up. They want to help the community and be nice to people.
My dad is in the Army. He does work that other people don’t like to do, but he works hard and does it. My first friends in my old school were named Ella and Alaina. They were my only two friends I had since kindergarten, but the good thing about them was they were military kids too. Every April they would call the military kids down to get their necklace, and I felt proud with my friends. They were nice to me all the time. But when I had to leave them, I was so sad. I work hard sometimes to help my dad with some things, and I like it when I help him because he’s so nice.

Hi there, my name is Margaret. I am grateful that I am a military child. My family and I are travelers. We visited Manila, Paris, France, and Italy. I saw my cousin and went swimming. In Paris, I ate ice cream. In Italy, I went to church. My family and I also went to lots of churches in lots of places. If my dad wasn’t in the military, I wouldn’t have been able to go to these wonderful places. That is why I like being a military child. I wish people knew that being a military child can be fun.

Hi! My name is John! I love Humphreys Central Elementary School! But I also liked the 2nd grade school that was in Daegu. It was a happy place, and it was fun too! I started school here. I did Pre-K to 1st grade. Then I moved to Daegu, and then I moved back here. It brings my memories back!
But I’m sad about saying goodbye to my friends. I have to make new friends in the places I move to. When I came back, the PX brought back memories of when I shopped there with my family. The apartment and the street also bring back memories of when I lived here! All the places are fun! It is happy and fun to be a military child!

I am a military child. When I first started this school, I was in kindergarten, and now I’m in 3rd grade. My 3rd grade teacher’s name is Mrs. Weilbacher. When it’s not Tuesday, we leave school in the afternoon at 2:00. I ride the bus to school and home.
My mom and dad both work in the military. My little sister is also at this school. She is in kindergarten right now. When I first started this school, I was kind of nervous because I wasn’t comfortable around people I didn’t know any people who didn’t speak the same language. But as time passed, I started to feel more comfortable, and now I speak English well. I made friends and became happy.
My best friends are twins. Their names are Doris and Carol. I live in Asia, the biggest continent, and the country I live in is South Korea. I live off post. My school’s name is HCES (Humphreys Central Elementary School). My grandma and grandpa live in China, which is also in Asia. I have visited China, America, Korea, and more! I am a happy child.

I love being a military child and also I do not like it a little bit because when you are a military child you have to move a lot and leave your friends and family members and leave all your memories that you made there and move on. The reason I love being a military child is because you can see more things and go to events and do sports and do anything there honestly. The thing I do not like is that I am always busy because I do gymnastics and basketball. One of my sisters plays violin and basketball. My other sister does basketball, baseball, and volleyball and my baby brother is trying to do basketball and volleyball. My family is really good at sports and really competitive. Me, my dad, my sisters, and my brother love playing on our ps5 or play station 5 but we love playing games together as a family. Me and my family love to go to visit somewhere, explore, go on vacation, or go to events. Also my family loves a barbecue place off base because it really brings family and friends together and also you can cook your own meat too. My dad and my sister love to collect pokemon and I love to collect youtuber cards, and if you get a signed card it is very expensive. I love to learn about history and the history I like is American history.

One of my favorite memories as a military child is when I got to Korea. I was 2 years old, and I went to Korean school for three years. I was new to the country. So when I got out of Korean school, I came to HCES. The first friend I made was named Benjamin. Living in different places has taught me that you have to make new friends. One challenge I faced when I was little is making friends, but I overcame that by not being shy and standing up for people. Being a military child helps me be stronger like fitness. I like being a military child because we get to go on trips like Tokyo, Taiwan, the Philippines, and a bunch of other cool places. My parents inspire me to be a good child and to be like them. My parents have important jobs because they help other families. A special tradition my family does is on Christmas, my parents hide the golden snitch and whoever finds it gets to open their present first. Another tradition my family has is on Easter, the Easter bunny brings a huge golden egg and whoever finds it gets what’s inside the golden egg.

Hello, my name is Ara. As a military child, I like to spend time with my Dad fishing. I was born in Hawaii. I spent most of my life so far in Hawaii. I met my best friend there. I played with him in Hawaii for 6 and a half years. When I moved to Korea I was sad that I was on the other side of the world. I eventually made some friends. After I made some friends I started making 30 minute missions and Gundam models. I started to snowboard, it was too hard. I tried skiing and I got the hang of it. Now I’m going to have a pet rhinobeetle. I like reptiles, invertebrates, and amphibians. That might be why I’m going to have a pet beetle. I also like domesticated cats. My best friend in the class is Jett.

Sometimes living as a military child is hard but most of the time it is easy. Living in different places is tiring, but you get used to it. Making new friends is hard but I found that it can be very nice at my school. I met my classmates; they became my first friends. One of my favorite memories at Camp Humphreys is spending time with my family at the pool during a hot summer day. I will never forget that. Last but not least, I am glad we are a military family because I get to go to new places and try new things. I am most proud of my parents. I thank them for their service.

My mom has to leave me sometimes with my five siblings and my mom flies overseas. She goes just for a day. My mom lets my friends come in to help me and my brother. They are so helpful. Sometimes when my siblings are asleep we watch a movie like kpop demon hunters. My brother and friends come and we play roblox. My friends are chill. They are nice!

Hi, my name is Jun. First my family is kind because my dad plays with me and my mom reads books to me. My dad and my mom are so kind. I live in Korea. I like to play roblox for trials. That game is a FPS game. At first I didn’t have many friends, but I am learning English and now I have friends.

Every year my uncle comes to Korea just to meet us. He is from the military but soon, he will retire. My little sister knows more Korean than me. I made some new friends the first day I came to this school and have made even more now. One of my good friends is John. We both talked a lot. My favorite place in Korea is “ Soul Land” because they were scary and fun rides, and good snacks!

Being a military child is life changing. I have learned to love the Military for many reasons, but there are some hard parts about being a Military child. Before my life in South Korea I had a stable life In Arizona where I spent my entire life. Now I spend my days embracing my new life, learning new things, meeting new people and experiencing a new culture. This is something I never expected. I do miss my old home, but I also feel that this change is helping me evolve and become stronger. I am grateful for these new experiences. I believe that being a military child means being adaptable and ready for any obstacle or journey along the way.

Being a military-connected kid means I am always needing to make new friends. First, I ask them nicely to be their friends. Then, after that, we will become friends forever. I can just play with my new or old friends. I like the military service because they protect our earth and countries from war. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially when it is their birthday. One of my favorite memories is when we went ice fishing and skiing. I live in Korea now but I have also lived in Japan and I went to Disneyland there!

I like being a military related child because I have some friends that are kind to me. I am so glad to have so many friends in my neighborhood and at school. The only thing I don’t like is that so many of my friends might move soon. I like how my friends do not say rude things to me. When I was in second grade me and my good friend made a promise to each other that we would not be rude to one another, and we kept our promise. We also promised to not lie to each other. I also like how my family is able to experience other cultures by being in this part of the world. I also like how there are sports here. My very good friend and I were lucky to get on the same basketball team. I also like how I get to be at the same school with so many of my friends. I love being a military connected student.

Living in different places has taught me that I can make new friends. It has also taught me I can adapt to how the weather changes and how the time is different from other states or countries. Moving can be a big change. You can meet a lot of new people, eat different kinds of food, and shops can be different. After a few weeks you will get used to it just like I did when I moved to Korea. I was three years old when we moved to Korea. In school I have a lot of friends. My favorite two friends are named Margaret and Kara. My family and I go on trips every year. I get to go on those trips because my mom is in the military. We all support my mom when she goes to the field. She is going next week and my dad will have to take care of me and my two brothers. He has done it a bunch of times before so I know he can do it. The school my brother and I go to is Humphreys Central Elementary school. I used to go to a Korean school called Magic Beans. Living in different places can be hard, but it is a lot of fun!

I will never forget when I had the sourest candy in the office where my dad works. I will also never forget when I made friends. Friends make me smile, laugh, and have fun. My friends also smile, laugh, and have fun like I do too. At my school I met so many friends like the people in my class! Some of my friends’ names are Zariah, Kara, Resmi, Josh, and so much more. Being a military child can sometimes be boring, but at other times it can be fun! Friends are my favorite people to play with and talk with. My dad is a military soldier, and my mom used to be a daycare person. I like being a military child!

My experience as a military connected student has not been long. My dad was in the army for about a year when I was 3 years old before he was medically discharged and my stepdad is in now. I do not remember much from my dad being in the service because I was so young and my mom and him were separated. My stepdad came into my life when I was 2 and a half years old. He was not in the Army when we first became a family in 2019. In 2024 when he joined I was 7 years old, much older and I could understand what was happening. When he was away for basic it felt like a lifetime had passed before I got to see him again. Then when I finally saw him for 2 days he had to disappear again. To be military connected you need to be strong and have patience. To have one parent in the house and one out is hard and frustrating. Here we are after a year and 6 months or so and we are finally together as a family and under the same roof and he gets to come home everyday after work. I want to say that being here in korea was worth the wait and hurt from being apart for so long but it’s not. It is a big plus because it is beautiful here and the food is amazing. Missing time is time you can not get back. You can only try and make up for it. As time passes I’m sure I will get used to it all, but most importantly I’m excited to make the most of the time we get together now. I can’t wait to see what our future holds with traveling and making new friends. I hope all soldiers stay safe and make it home to their families.

My life as a military child is awesome because I can go to different countries and states. I could only swim in Hawaii but in Korea I learned how to ski, snowboard, and taekwondo. But one thing why I don’t like being a military child is because my best friends leave. I am proud of my daddy because he’s very cool. One cool tradition I celebrate is Christmas because I get presents and make cookies for Santa but mostly why I make cookies is because I eat like ½ of all the cookies. One thing I faced was this winter I went skiing with my friend Ryan. He is a very good snowboarder so he said we’d go on the steepest mountain in the resort. I will never forget the time my best friend in 2nd grade Christian gave me two roblox cards. I am also a black belt in taekwondo.

One thing I like about being a military kid is that I get to meet a lot of new friends. It does make me sad though when I have to leave them. My dad is in the Army. I love when we get a chance to celebrate him as a family. That is why I first learned how to snap! I am really proud of my dad and the work he does!
