Camp Casey Soldier selected as USO Pacific Volunteer of the Quarter
Volunteers are the heart of the USO. There are over 30,000 volunteers that support military service members and their families worldwide. There are countless ways volunteers support the USO, but they are all unified in their dedication to our service members and their families. Whether it’s helping at a special event, greeting and cheering at homecomings, working the front desk, or providing a listening ear, our volunteers are the reason service members know they can count on the USO.
For the first time in recent years a soldier from Camp Casey, SGT Ingrid Brown, has been selected for the prestigious award of USO Pacific Volunteer of the Quarter. This award is given to only one volunteer from USOs throughout Hawaii, Okinawa, Japan, Guam, and Korea each quarter. “SGT Brown is one of our key volunteers, always offering to help above and beyond what we ask of our volunteers. As a Front Desk Representative, she has served as our key weeknight and weekend front desk leader and represents the face of the USO to the public,” said Tom Higgins, USO Casey Center Manager. In just 5 ½ months, SGT Brown, from DTAC, 2ID Combined Division has amassed 503 total volunteer hours and has been instrumental in major programs such as the Super Bowl and USO 78th Birthday celebrations. Her selfless service has been critical to USO Casey delivering the USO mission of strengthening America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home and country, throughout their service to the nation. Nowhere is the mission more critical then at Camp Casey on Freedom’s Frontier. It is very hard to find volunteers here at Camp Casey since this is a dependent-restricted location.
“SGT Brown has brought technical expertise, energy, excitement, and great ideas to the USO Casey family.” stated Tom Higgins. She exemplifies the USO core values, most noticeably, she puts the mission first and is committed to doing what is right and shows great ownership and accountability for the center. “A volunteer’s work is never done and giving back to your community is one’s greatest achievement,” stated SGT Brown.
