USAG Humphreys Youth Center Announces their 2019 Youth of the Year

Every year a time comes where the USAG Humphreys Youth Center announces their winner for the Youth of the Year.  For this year that time has come, and its winner Sarah Young, is a spot on illustration of the core values and characteristics that the title is based on; Character, Leadership, and Service to the Community.

Sarah is a senior at Humphreys High School, where she takes part in Drama as well as JROTC, as a Cadet CSM.  Away from school, Sarah is incredibly committed to the Youth Center’s Keystone Club.  She was elected by her peers to be the President of the club for the 2018-2019 school year and has led them to totaling over 350 volunteer hours as a club.  Additionally, she has them on track to be recognized by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America as the first ever Gold Level Chartered Keystone Club in the history of the Korean Peninsula.  On her own Sarah has achieved countless hours of volunteer service this year by doing activities such as, assisting with toddlers at Jacob’s Home Orphanage, handing out goodie bags to the community on MLK Jr. Day of Service, and dressing as Santa’s elves at the post-wide Tree Lighting Festival.

As the USAG Humphreys Youth of the Year, Sarah will now represent USAG Humphreys at the Regional Youth of the Year competition in April at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa.  At this competition Sarah will interview and give a speech while in competition with other youth representatives from military bases around Japan, Okinawa, Korea, and Singapore.  When asked how she feels about being the face of the youth at USAG Humphreys, Sarah stated that she is “excited for the opportunity to have this platform to encourage [her] peers to give back to their community, and to better themselves by bettering others.”
