Busan’s beach season officially begins on June 26 with the opening of Haeundae and Songjeong beaches, followed by Songdo, Gwangalli, Dadaepo (East and West), Ilgwang, and Imrang on July 1.

More than 21.97 million people visited Busan’s beaches last year, an increase of 11.4% compared to 2024, prompting the city to further strengthen safety measures.

Risk assessments have been completed at all beaches, with designated swimming and marine leisure zones established based on the findings. Safety personnel will also be deployed according to expected visitor numbers.

Protective jellyfish nets and other marine hazard prevention systems will be installed at major beaches, including Haeundae, Gwangalli and Ilgwang.

Busan will also operate a joint emergency response system involving the 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team, private lifeguards and the Korea Coast Guard.

The Busan Fire and Disaster Headquarters will station rescue teams at seven beaches from July through September.

In addition to water safety, officials will focus on food hygiene, accommodation inspections, traffic and parking management, water quality monitoring, and measures to prevent excessive pricing during the peak vacation season.

The city is also expanding marine recreation and wellness programs across its beaches.

Visitors can enjoy activities such as kayaking and scuba diving at Songdo, surfing at Songjeong, and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) at Gwangalli.

Wellness programs, including beach yoga, sunset Pilates, seaside running and singing bowl meditation sessions, will also be offered.

Popular events such as the Gwangalli M Drone Light Show and the Busan Sea Festival in August will return as part of the city’s efforts to expand year-round coastal tourism and outdoor experiences.
