Busan, Korea’s major department stores launch new year mega sales to lift consumer spending

Lotte Department Store and Shinsegae Centum City have kicked off their first major sales events of 2026.
Lotte is running its New Year Regular Sale through January 18 across all Busan branches, with more than 320 brands offering discounts of up to 50%, along with mobile gift-certificate rewards, beauty promotions, and store-specific pop-ups and clearance events.
Shinsegae Centum City is holding its “Shinbaek Members Festa” through January 11, featuring around 300 brands with discounts up to 70%, special-price product events, member reward benefits, and a curated “New Season Fair” targeting back-to-school shoppers.
Industry watchers say the synchronized sales campaign is designed to stimulate spending during what is typically the quietest retail period of the year, while boosting traffic across major commercial districts.
