Busan has completed the Suyeong River Human Bridge, a landmark pedestrian crossing connecting the Busan Cinema Center in U-dong in Haeundae-gu with the Hyupsung Renaissance Apartments area in Suyeong-dong in Suyeong-gu.

The bridge officially opened with a ceremony last week and is scheduled to begin full public operation next month.

The project, launched in 2020 as part of the city’s 15-minute city initiative, creates the first vehicle-free bridge linking the two districts.

Measuring 214 meters in length and 7 to 18 meters wide, the structure dramatically shortens walking distance between the neighborhoods, from about 1.3 km previously to roughly 250 meters.

With the opening, residents can now walk directly between APEC Naru Park, the Busan Cinema Center, and nearby residential areas, forming a continuous pedestrian route extending from Gwangalli to the Suyeong River and onward to Haeundae.

City officials expect the bridge to function not just as infrastructure but as a stay-type waterfront space where visitors pause and enjoy river views.

The route also links major cultural and tourism destinations including the Busan Museum of Art, Suyeong Paldomarket, Suyeong Historic Park, Becon Ground, and F1963, creating a new lifestyle and tourism corridor between Haeundae and Suyeong’s popular café and cultural district.

Busan plans to designate the bridge as the city’s first pedestrian-only road, prohibiting vehicles and personal mobility devices to improve safety and accessibility.

The city estimates about 5,000 users per day and expects the project to boost walking tourism and neighborhood commerce while strengthening Busan’s pedestrian-focused urban strategy.
